Audience first. Product second.

I think the reason so many businesses never take off is because most entrepreneurs create a solution and then try to find a problem to match it with.

This is, in essence, creating the product first and finding the audience afterwards.

In my opinion…

This is ass backwards.

I’ve always found the most success when I go to my audience, my email list, my 1,000 true fans and first ask THEM what they desire.

Then, it’s easy to create a “perfect fit” solution for the people who know you, like you and trust you the most.

Sure:

We ALL have an idea for a product that WE would love.

But sometimes the rest of the world doesn’t share your vision. They might in time. But by then, you might not be around when their awareness reaches the level you need to sustain a viable business.

Here’s what works better:

Find a hungry market.

Attract people who resonate with your unique brand.

Get them onto an email list.

Nurture the relationship and establish a feedback loop.

Ask them what they want most.

Create the thing that helps them get it.

Gather more feedback.

Improve your offer.

Find more people who are like your current people and scale.

Sometimes, the thing you create might fail. It might flop. But if you have the audience, you can reach out and ask WHY they didn’t like it.

Sometimes, a pivot can be made and you’ll snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

But the only happens if you build your audience first and your product second.

I’ve spent the past 3 years building an audience. It takes a LONG time. You’re going to want to stop. And when you get to piece of content #37… and you only get one email subscriber that day (but 4 unsubscribes)… you’re really going to wonder if this is all worth it.

It’s when you continue to do the things that build your magnetic field that your get to a point of supreme leverage. And you can take advantage of an audience who wants to help you succeed.
